Overwhelming response to Photo Workshops

January 7, 2008 · Leave a Comment

No sooner was the SMS blast made, were the places already taken up with responses at furious speed. Because of the constraints of the meeting room in Food-from-the-Heart Office, the most we could accommodate is 45 people at each time.

So, if you have received another SMS confirmation from FFTH Office, do remember to bookmark the date and time. The location is FFTH Office at Goldhill Centre 161B, Thomson Rd (Opposite to United Square) Singapore 397614. Tel: 6259 7176

Workshop #1: Fri 11 Jan 2008, 7pm

Workship #2: Sat 12 Jan 2008, 3pm

To those who missed this time, we will try to organise more workshops. If you are interested, drop an email to victor@foodheart.org, and we will keep you posted.

Photo Workshops

January 2, 2008 · Leave a Comment

We have lined up two workshops, bringing in various photographers with different experiences to share with you their experiences. We hope that these workshops will inspire you to look at the “Human Heart” from various perspectives.

On Fri 11 Jan 2008, from 7pm to 9pm, we have invited Hermie Vanlaar to share with you her experiences of Singapore. See how a Dutch lady looks at the daily Singapore life. She has published a photography book entitled, A slice of Singapore.

On Sat 12 Jan 2008, from 3pm to 5.30pm, we have a lineup of four photographers. They are Eugene Tang of the singaporesights.com fame. You will get to hear how Eugene makes a business out of the new media. Patrick Leong has published a book dedicated to the “Bodhi Tree and Leaves” in honour of Jin Long Shi. But his interests is in underwater photography. Billy, as many of you might have met him, being the volunteer photographer with FFTH, he will talk about his experiences as a commercial photographer. And there’s Gilles Massot, a localised French who has lived in Singapore for the past 25 years. He is the guru of photography, teaching in LaSalle. He has published a number of books.

We hope  they sharing their experiences will enrich you with ideas on how to capture that moment onto a photo, something that anyone and everyone can!

We will let you know the place once we have confirmed it. We are hoping to find a place nearer to town. Watch out for updates!

Food from the Heart will be turning 5 soon! In February 2008, FFTH will celebrate its 5th anniversary and would like to celebrate this momentous occasion with our 3000 volunteers who work so tirelessly, every day, in our mission to alleviate suffering.MOST IMPORTANTLY: We would like to invite you to block out 24th February 2008 to join us from 11.30am – 5.00pm at the National Museum of Singapore where a fun filled day awaits!

> Come Play the 8 Treasures Chest!!

Form a team of between 2 to 6 persons, within 2.5 hours, decipher the clues and be the first 10 teams to win the challenge. For those of us who like to take our time to enjoy the game, you are most welcome to participate in the non-competitive league. The treasure hunt will be run like a mini amazing race so participants can look forward to an exciting time!
More information will be release in late January.

Other activities leading up to the Celebration: > Photography competition
All our volunteers have hearts of gold – so we decided to focus our theme on The Human Heart” for this contest. Let your creativity flow and submit entries that depict the generosity and kindness in your heart! 16 winning entries will be displayed at the National Museum and winners will have their masterpieces displayed for two weeks and will win attractive prizes from our wonderful sponsors. Entries open on 24th December 2007 and ends on 24th January 2008.

> Workshops
As a thank you gesture to our volunteers and to provide a platform for all volunteers to mingle and get to know each other, FFTH will be organising monthly workshop sessions. The first one, to be held in early January, is on photography and how to take that winning shot! Very timely as our photography contest is on!
