Toys Buffet 2008 – Volunteers Needed!

Dear Volunteers,

Once again, Food from the Heart will be organising our mega toy carnival known as Toys Buffet 2008!. This year, Toys Buffet will be held on Friday, 07th November at Catholic High School. The event will start at 1230hrs and is expected to end at1800hrs.

Date: Friday, 07th November

Time: 1230-1800hrs

Venue: Catholic High School (9 Bishan Street 22 S579767)

On this day, we will see 20 toy booths being set up in the school hall and another 15 fun & fringe activity booths being set up at the school canteen. All the 20 toy booths are taken up by donors schools and will be manned by student ambassadors. As for the food & fringe activity booths, we are hoping to roped in our volunteers to join and help us out.

We are calling out to our volunteers that are available to help us our at this fun filled event. We would need help in these follwing areas:

 

-          manning of food counters (abour 15 pax)

-          manning and in-charge of fringe activity booths like games & temporary tattoos ( about 15 pax)

-          ushering ( about 5 pax)

-          act as the student ambassador’s guardian (10 pax)

-          in-charge of the helium gas tank & all deco (about 8 pax)

-          in-charge of the toy factory (a room will be assigned where toys are being place here for Quality Checks before bringing them over to the school hall) (1 pax)

 

Please note that volunteers that are available to help are required to attend the volunteers’ briefing scheduled on Wednesday, 05th November, 7.15pm at FFTH office. This briefing is COMPLUSORY as we need to fill you in on the location, procedures and the run down of the event.

The main objective of this event is to spead joy to the underprivilged chidlren and to inject a sense of compassion among the students from the donor schools. So join us in our mission to make more children happy!

Hearty Italian with Chef Antonio

Dear Volunteers,

It’s time yet for another Foodheart gathering! Watch how Italian Chef Antonio Massagli whip up an meal right before our eyes! We are inviting the first 30 registered active volunteers to confirm their attendance with us for this complimentary treat. We love to find fun ways to gather and what better reason than for food and PASSION!

Grand Hyatt has been a firm supporter of the Food from the Heart cause since 2005. On a daily basis, Hyatt donates freshly baked pastries to the less fortunate through our bread distribution programme. The hotel also participates in the birthday programme and other adhoc events that reaches out to the under-privileged children in Singapore.

Passionball 2008 – Summer Chic, 17 May

Come celebrate the joie de vivre of summer with us at Passion Ball 2008. Summer chic will give everyone a reason to kick up their heels and enjoy yet another fabulous ball. Artists have paid tribute to summer in so many ways over so many years and now it’s our turn! Come dressed in your summer best and indulge in sizzling favourites prepared by the talented chefs at The Fullerton. Be entertained by live music and swirl and twirl to the sultry sounds of “Summertime” or bop away to the music of the Beach Boys!As an added treat, an award winning International designer will present a fashion show highlighting the vivid hues and liveliness of his latest collection.

.After dinner, relax over a brandy with good friends and be tempted by the sumptuous dessert buffet.

Passion Ball 2008 will be held at The Fullerton on Saturday, May 17 and Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Abdullah Tarmugi and his wife will grace our event.

All proceeds from Passion Ball will go towards Food from the Heart – a registered non-profit organisation that was established in 2003 to alleviate hunger and suffering in Singapore. From its humble beginnings of delivering unsold bread and bakery items to welfare homes, Food from the Heart now runs five programmes all designed to help needy Singaporeans. In total, Food from the heart reaches out to over 11000 individuals and 160 welfare homes and schools.

Shanghai Yue Opera Charity Nights 2008, 19-20 June

For the third consecutive year, Marine Parade Shanghai Yue Opera Club will enthralled audience with two full length opera epics. Once again, we have invited Huang Hui and Hua Yi-qing, National First Class artistes and Chen Qiong-qiong, a promsing young artiste from Shanghai Yue Opera House to perform for these two nights as part of the annual fund-raising for Food from the Heart.

Five Daughters Celebrating Grand Birthday

Sypnosis - During the Jia-jing Era of Ming Dynasty (AD1368 – 1644), factions close to devious Prime Minister Yan Song monopolize power.  Tired of the internal power struggle, 60-year-old Yang Ji-kang plans to quit politics.  He celebrates his birthday in his official residence in the Capital.  His daughters and their son-in-laws come to celebrate this grand birthday bestowing him with expensive gifts.  Only his third daughter Yang San-chun and her husband came empty-handed.  San-chun was fostered after her parents died from Yan Song’s persecution.  Her foster-mother despise her and poor scholar husband, Zou Ying-long.  Yang Ji-kang’s brother Yang Ji-sheng challenges Yan Song and tries to expose his misdeeds.  Yan Song outmaneuvers him instead and orders his execution.  All his relatives are implicated but Yang Ji-kang is only spared death because of his past contribution.  He is stripped of all official title and entire fortune.  The homeless couple with only one devoted maid has to turn to his daughters for shelter.  His eldest son-in-law has joined Yan Song’s cliché, his second daughter refused to accept them as they have no more inheritance and the father-in-law of his two younger daughters refuses to let him stay for fear of implication.  Fortunately, foster-daughter San-chun is able to take care of them.   After three years, third son-in-law Zou Ying-long passes the Imperial Examination as Top Scholar.  With his new power base of righteous officials, he challenges Yan Song again and manages to redress the injustice suffered by all righteous officials before.  Yang Ji-kang is reinstated to his previous ministerial post and celebrated his birthday again in the Capital.  Between his two grand birthdays, much of life’s ironies unfold. 

20 June – Han Dynasty Historical Epic:

The Legend of Song Hong

Sypnosis - “The Legend of Song Hong” is a tale of moral righteousness, integrity and loyalty.  During the Han Dynasty, Emperor Liu Xiu’s elder sister, Princess Hu-yang falls in love with a talented court official Song Hong.  She is determined to take him as a husband.  Song Hong is already married and has a loving relationship with his wife Lady Zheng San-jie.  Politely he declines the princess’s offer.  Empress Guo Sheng-tong feels that Song Hong’s rise in power is a potential threat to the Han nobles and tries to encourage the marriage in order to form an alliance with him.   Song Hong is adamant to remain faithful to Zheng San-jie and refuses to be forced into marrying Princess Hu-yang, even though disobeying the Emperor’s decree could mean punishment by execution.  Meanwhile, the Empress tries to drive Lady Zheng out of the city.  She is forcefully taken by the Imperial Guards to the borders but is rescued by noble General Ma Wu.  On the day of  Song Hong’s execution, Lady Zheng finally tells how she saved the Emperor and Princess Hu-yang long ago when the dynasty was in chaos.   Empress Guo’s plan is exposed; ashamed; Princess Hu-yang speaks in defense of Song Hong and allows the loving couple to reunite.
